About Mariah

From Media Personality to Publicist and Creative Director, Mariah Barnette (formerly Mariah Oates) is passionate about storytelling and showcasing the correlation between displaying talent and articulating brand stories. As a Publicist and Communications Professional, Mariah uses strategic approaches and her media relations perspective to ensure that brands appeal to their audiences and are pitchworthy to publications.

Before launching her PR agency in 2017, Mariah held numerous roles within the Communications field, where she worked behind the scenes in television production, learned the ropes of being an on-air personality, and managed the image of multiple organizations. Mariah has secured client placements in publications such as Teen Vogue, The Huffington Post, Hello Beautiful, XO Necole, Sheen Magazine, Travel Noire, Black Enterprise, NPR, and many others, including local news and radio. Throughout her career, Mariah has had the opportunity to work alongside several notable figures, including Dia Simms, Rashan Ali, Karen Civil, Yvonne Orji, Brandy, Ro James, Rotimi, and Alisha Brooks, CEO of The Black Hair Experience,” to name a few.

In 2021, she became the Director of Communications and Development for Mamatoto Village, a Black maternal health non-profit organization serving Black women and families in Washington, DC, and Prince George County, MD. While at Mamatoto Village, she led various storytelling campaigns, continued to increase the organization's visibility, and oversaw the launch of D.C.'s first Reproductive Health Pantry. She also serves as the Board Treasurer for WABJ (Washington Association of Black Journalists). 

 

Mariah is a wife to her husband, Michael, and the mother of their daughter, Skylar. Her credentials, matched with her expertise, make her the go-to resource for all things Public Relations, Media, and Motherhood.
